Sunbasket Meals For A Gluten-Free Diet

Ever since we started our gluten-free journey, having a meal plan in place for our dinners has been essential. From after-school activities to sports, all while being a two-parent full-time working household, it’s important for us to have a plan; otherwise, dinnertime is complete chaos. Having a plan for dinners makes our gluten-free life a lot easier. We know those needing a gluten-free dinner will always have something available. I’ve tried a number of meal kits in the past but have not had much luck; then I discovered Sunbasket meals, and my opinions on meal kits have started to change.

In their own words: “Sunbasket is here to make healthy eating easy, delicious, and personalized to fit our customers’ diverse lifestyles.”

Turns out, it’s true.

There Are Lots of Gluten-Free Options

In the past, I have avoided weekly meal services due to their lack of options that support our family’s dietary needs. So many other companies offer one or two gluten-free meal options a week, leaving us no say in what we eat for dinner if we use them.

One of the first things I noticed about Sunbasket meals is the number of gluten-free options. There wasn’t just one meal available that we could make as a gluten-free family—there were plenty of choices each week. For example, the week of September 8, 2024, 14 options are gluten-free.

The website is clearly labeled if something is vegetarian, gluten-free, non-GMO, soy-free, and carb-conscious. A filter is also available for “protein plus” if you want a higher protein option. The Meal Kits feature clean ingredients, organic fresh produce, and sustainably-raised proteins.

Having this many options means we have a choice in what we eat for dinner each night, and we can skip over the meals that we know our kids won’t even look at. It’s a win/win for everyone involved.

Sunbasket Meals Are More Than Just Dinner

While dinner is the main feature of Sunbasket meals, there are also meals for breakfast, lunch, snacks, sides, and beverages. It’s not likely realistic to order every single meal of the week from their website; however, if you are having a busy week and don’t have time to really plan, there is a lot you can stock up on for the week.

The breakfast brownies were at the top of my list to try, and they did not disappoint. It’s rare to find a gluten-free brownie that is not the size of a quarter.  These were filling and perfect for breakfast or a late-morning snack. I highly recommend microwaving them for about 15 seconds, just long enough to make the chocolate chips inside of them melt.

Not to mention, there are options of just adding proteins to your weekly order. If you have a recipe at home, you can have the fresh proteins delivered without having to make a trip to the store.

It’s Perfect For Busy School Nights

As we dive back into the hectic routine of school, sports practices, endless homework, and all the other activities that keep our calendars full, quick and easy dinners have become an absolute must in our house. With so much going on, we don’t have time for complicated recipes that require much, if any, prep work. That’s why, for the longest time, I avoided the trendy meal kits. Following long recipes on a busy school night felt more trouble than it was worth.

That’s what was different about Sunbasket meals. Each meal we prepared was not only delicious but also incredibly quick to make. In just under 15 minutes, we had a hot dinner ready to go. On those chaotic nights when we ate dinner at the soccer fields, the meals were easy to pack up in containers and take on the go. They still tasted good even an hour after cooking them.

Extras Made For Delicious Leftovers

While I knew my kids wouldn’t touch a salmon dinner, my husband and I love a good salmon dinner. Even though the two of us would be the only ones eating dinner, I still ordered enough to have 4 servings of the dinner. It made for great leftovers for lunch the next day. The fish was still fresh, and the toppings to go with it held up just fine in the fridge overnight.

The instructions for each meal showed what to do if you were cooking just two or four servings. No math was required to double each recipe, which was even more of a win when my brain had shut off after a long day of staring at Excel spreadsheets.
